Fire Guard F02
The Fire Guard FO2 (F-02) training course description prepares individuals for the FDNY Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guards in Shelters, focusing on fire safety in temporary housing, emergency shelters, and places of assembly with compromised systems, covering hazard identification, emergency response procedures, evacuation, fire extinguisher use (PASS method), and NYC Fire Code compliance to ensure occupant safety.
DHS Shelter Security Management
DHS Shelter Security Management (primarily NYC's Department of Homeless Services) involves layered strategies for safety, combining on-site Peace Officers, NYPD collaboration, technology, strict protocols for client behavior (curfews, searches), and specialized training for staff on trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and crisis intervention, all to maintain order, protect residents, and connect them to housing, focusing heavily on risk assessment and procedural compliance.
Security Training
8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training: Your initial step, covering basic duties, legal powers, emergency response, and ethics, culminating in a state exam. 16-Hour On-the-Job Training (OJT):Completed after employment, this focuses on specific site duties, access control, incident command, and terrorism awareness. 8-Hour Annual In-Service Training:Required yearly to keep your skills and knowledge updated on laws and procedures.
